Some of the coordinators of the CM and HI areas created the Brazilian Committee for Antimicrobial Sensitivity Testing (BrCAST), a unique initiative in Brazil that brings together four scientific societies: the Brazilian Clinical Analyses Society, the Brazilian Infectious Diseases Society, Brazilian Microbiology Society and the Brazilian Clinical Pathology Society and Laboratorial Medicine. BrCAST is aligned with the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) and is recognized by this institution as a national committee linked to EUCAST. Some documents translated into Portuguese are available on BrCAST’s website (www.brcast.org.br), which can be implemented in routine clinical microbiology. The main objective is that all of Brazil uses a single standard for antimicrobial susceptibility testing, which is free and widely available in Portuguese.
